My Educational Vision (As of 2019)

My educational vision melds a practice based in grade level literacy competencies within a contemporary context of education. I believe in order to gain anything from a high school English class, a basic sense of literacy is important. Instead of ignoring my student’s needs, I plan on incorporating assistive technology to aid in reading and understanding. By providing a multimedia approach to reading, I hope to give students a contemporary basis of comprehension and understanding. Another part of my vision is using culturally responsive pedagogy in my classroom. Since literature and writing span all cultures I want to bring in pieces from my student’s culture so they feel represented in the curriculum. This will not only benefit their learning, but expose all of my students to different kinds of literature that is not represented in the traditional high school English canon. I hope that by recognizing my student’s needs and cultures I will be able to foster a sense of familial community in my high school classroom.
